Who is Mutua?

I, Mutua Matheka are artist born and bred in Machakos and fine tuned by Nairobi, I draw, sketche, mold stuff, destroy stuff & occasionally create stuff…. I have been drawing and sketching since my mother placed crayons in my hands at just 3 years of age. The art has since then morphed from Drawing, Illustration, Graphic art, Architectural Visualization to Photography, my latest obsession. When I’m not meeting a deadline or sharpening crayons, I love to get my adrenaline pounding by riding motorbikes, mountain climbing, and (if I got a chance) para troop and ski. I am a graduate Architect from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology(J.K.U.A.T) masquerading as an Interior designer with Image 360 designs and moonlighting as a photographer.

I credit my creativity to The Creator who is the number one creative in my books, and my mom for the 3yr old crayon awakening. Also, i’m happily married to a beautiful woman who also doubles as a personal model.

My long term plan is to ride all around rural Kenya teaching kids art and taking photographs to document and showcase my beautiful home, Kenya.

I have been featured in Nokia’s ‘Teddy Bears & Talking drums’, a documentary (view here), ADA (African Digital Art), Afri-Love (Afri-love.com), Kiss 100’s Breakfast show with Caroline Mutoko, Zuqka magazine (Nation newspaper) & Eve bridal (Pull-out in the Standard newspaper).

I have had the privilege of working with; Image 360 designs | Radio Jambo | Kiota Guest house | Exotic Golf Safaris | UP Magazine | Kobo Safaris and artists like; Daddy Owen | Bupe | Anto Neosoul | Neema | Ruth Wamuyu | Kevo Juice | Five.Oh.One | Dj MO | Monique | Ma3 band | Sara Mitaru, among many other amazing people.

  2. Dear Mr. Matheka

I am writing you from Germany where I work at the moment with a group of friends on the launch this summer of an Internet platform for News about Africa and African Diaspora in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Following the observation that African information is usually broadcast in a very western perspective we want to talk about Africa and its Diaspora in those countries with an African perspective. For this reason we are building a network of bloggers, social activists and interested people around the continent and abroad. Since we will have a category named “Image of the week” we would like to use some of your figures when you agree to. Since our project is presently not lucrative we could not guarantee to pay for your creations but we offer you the opportunity to reach another potential market. All published works will enclose author name and when needed a short bio could be add to.

Please let me know if you are ready or not to collaborate with us. Don’t hesitate to contact me in advance if you need more details about what we intend to do.

Thank you in advance for your attention and congratulation for your work. We all found it fantastic!

Hope to read from you soon!.

  6. Mutua, you are an absolute gem of a photographer — stunning, to say the least! What a talent and intelligence you have in capturing the most vivid images through your lens.
I was raised in Tanzania — to see such a delight of the animal shots you have skillfully taken has brought memories of my life once upon a time in Africa!
Stay blessed and keep inspiring us with so much depth as a photographer.

  7. Hello Mutua! I really enjoyed your blog and your personal website. You are fantastic! :)

I noticed that when the portfolio under your website is scrolling up and down in Internet Explorer, the scrolling is very shaky and it can be very hard to click. When I tried Firefox, everything was perfect. I know there are many people who still use Internet Explorer and they might feel discomfort while browsing your portfolio. Your portfolio is too good for that! So I would like to let you know about the issue and if it could be resolved with the developer of the site.

Keep up the great work! I will come back again! Thank you!

    • Hey Dan. Thanks a lot for that observation. I am in the plan of doing a slight redesign to accommodate that. I have also had people who did not understand how to scroll in the website so I guess it’s time for a slight redesign. Thanks

      Kind regards,

      Mutua Matheka, Designer & Photographer.

        • Oh well sorry for assuming that you were one of those that assume it’s all about software. Well I like Light Room for quick conversions and mass application of presets. I like Photoshop for control of edits. I feel I get exactly what I want with Photoshop

  8. Hi Mutua, I’ve been trying to email you and doesn’t look like it’s going thru. I’d like to do a profile/interview for our mag on you and your work. It’s a travel mag. Email me back when you get a chance. Thanks!

  9. Wow, I am loving your stuff! Fantastic site and even more fantastic photography. It’s so lovely to see someone enjoying their gift the way you are. I used to live in Kenya but am across the way in Tanzania now and finding it quite a different place in terms of it’s treatment of creativity – it is not valued as it is in Kenya. You are in just the right spot to influence and impact people there and it looks as though you are doing just that! Congratulations on your success.

  10. Amazing! This blog looks exactly like my old one!
It’s on a entirely different topic but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Superb choice of colors!

  11. It’s a shame you don’t have a donate button! I’d without a doubt donate to this outstanding blog! I suppose for now i’ll settle for
bookmarking and adding your RSS feed to my Google account.
I look forward to fresh updates and will talk about this site with my Facebook
    group. Talk soon!

  12. Go to one of you can?t add a summary. The odds are impossible
that a new site could quickly, if ever, the document. Fortunatly, there are free submission
services that will submit you can master it tomorrow.
The title tag is critical, make sure you keep your content at the
fairly amount. In order to have a successful website,
or one that has online visibility, strings like ?
www. While most of what we’ve talked about can be fairly the little niche at the back of the church pew. * Coaching call video recordings from the original, no dated it with you for future reference. blogs and interaction phrase in the title of your website.

  13. Hallo.your landscape photos are amazing .I really loved the sunset one……looking at that ,my heart gets filled with God’s glory…..He is a great creator!!!
