Dwellers of Tanganyika [part 1]

The scene is Tanzania, specifically Tarangire National park and Serengeti. I recently did a little safari there that had me in the midst of all these country dwellers. I got to be within 10 meters of this giant elephant that was upset at a group of tourists that was talking loud and taking pictures so he charged, my heart skipped. More for fear than bravery, I just sat down and kept shooting(those photos you shall see later). One of the days while walking in the evening from dinner to my room, a buffalo is chilling on the road, I bargained for a minute on whether he would notice me but decided not to bargain and went back to dinner till I found some braver(or stupider) men to walk with.

All in all it was a lovely experience that I hope you shall enjoy via these few photos.

I even met up with Moto Moto, but he was too hot(literally) to hang out with me.

That’s all for today folk. Have a lovely weekend.

  1. Incredible photos of vistas and animals I’ll probably never witness firsthand — which makes me so grateful I was able to experience this through your Freshly Pressed post.

    Congratulations!

    Mikalee

  2. Wow, your photographs are amazing. I hope I get a chance to go on a safari and see such incredible sights with my own eyes one day. Until then, I’ll ‘travel’ through your beautiful images. Thanks for sharing and congrats on being freshly pressed – you deserve it, with such talent!

  3. Wow, I’m amazed by the beautiful pictures. I’m speechless. Can I save the one with the elephants as my background on my laptop? I’m actually very fond off elephants, so that’s why. :)

    • Hi Linn. Yes you can use them. I do invade have a post called ‘Wallpaper Monday’ for that exact thing. 2 weeks ago the wallpaper was an elephant

  4. amazing pictures!!! i enjoy looking at them. one day i hope to travel to Tanzania to go check out the land and the animals that belong to the land. i have one question tho…. how long did it take you to get the right shot of the animals you have on your blog?
    – Chase

    • Hey Chase. It’s a wonderful place. I do hope you get to visit. I also wish I could say I stayed long waiting for the perfect shot. I was with a group of tourists & unfortunately we couldn’t stay too long at one spot. God led my lens I suppose. Some I got, some I didn’t. I would actually want to go alone with better equipment and time and shoot without rushing

      Kind regards,

  5. These photos bring back so many memories for me. I have been there. Amazing place. The Congo was incredible as well. Fantastic blog and incredibly great photos. Keep up the great work! Angelique

    • Stacey, thanks. Do enjoy your trip because the Serengeti is a lovely place. If you can, do early morning safaris, sunrise or sunset. The light is beautiful then. Or make sure to be watching the sunset with a sundowner

  8. I ;ove this wonderful place. Your photos bring back the memories of the Safari on the Masai mara. isn’t it amazing that, while one can photograph the animals so well as you have done, but the feeling of the vastness and majesty of the place can only be expierienced first hand.

    • Correctly put Maggie. Nothing beats first hand experience

  14. Beautiful pictures. i visited Africa last year and fell head over heals in love with the country as soon as my feet hit the ground.

  15. Those are really spectacular. Thank you for posting. I went to Tanzania a few years ago and this has inspired me to blog about it. (htp://alysonchadwick.com) Thank you!

  16. Love the photos. I came here through the FreshlyPressed link. I love Tanzania, and seeing these makes me want to go back.

I especially love the ones of the wildebeest that look old and worn, like they really are from another time.

Great photos – and my fave is the last one!

    AJ

  17. Amazing. Zebras and Giraffes are among my favorite animals, and you photograph them beautifully here. Thanks!

  21. Great shots I love the Elephants under the trees spectacular as well as the baboons, I recently went to durban and was lucky to go to a game reserve, no big five though, its all in my blog.

Today though being Halloween I saw some classic people at the Melbourne Zombie Shuffle Australia.

it was off the hook check it out.

Kudos to you Mutua these photos rock.

  22. Wow! Incredible pictures! I loved the Giraffe and the Elephant close up shots! What I like about your pictures is that the lens captures the most miniscule details, making you feel as if you were right there face to face with the Giraffe or standing side by side with the Elephant! Great job!

If it is okay with you, I would like to mention my own blog that I just started and share the link with your readers. It’s called Logic Meets Reason and it would be great if you and your readers could comment, subscribe, and take a look at the pieces I have posted! 24. Wow, amazing photography. I could only imagine what you could do if you lived in my beach community Laguna Beach, Ca. Also, thank you for allowing me to experience the animals of Africa.

  25. Fabulous pictures.. one day, I am going to visit Kenya and rest of Africa. I just love that continent. Thanks for sharing the wonderful shots.. I am going to keep track of your blog. :)

  26. Aren’t the animals beautiful there. I visited those 2 parks 2 summers ago and they blew my mind away. I can really relate to the heart skipping moment of getting charged by an elephant, we got between the mother and calf. You captured all the animals so beautifully. I wish I had such beautiful pictures to remember my trip. YOu have inspired me to take more pictures myself,
    Thank you

  28. Your photography inspires me! I’m a beginner South African photographer with a love for the wild, so your photos here are right up my alley! Thank you for your inspiration Mutua!

  29. Absolutely Awesome! These photographs are stunning and the detail is phenomenal. I know that I’ll probably never experience this beauty personally, but I’m very thankful that I was able to experience this journey through your breath-taking photos! I’m looking forward to more incredible photos! Thanks for sharing these amazing images!

  30. I so love this post! I think it’s one of the most pleasant ones since I joined the blogosphere.
I love it how your photos each have a unique tone and then they all match each other on the page. So after you scroll down for the first time you want to scroll it all over again ( which I will do as soon as I finish the comment)

I don’t know yet how come that you are able to take so many pictures of wild animals ( it’s really intriguing) but I’m going to have a look at your About page later.

I also wanted to tell you that this picture on the top of the page does a lot to hold attention. I honestly forgot why I opened the page ( I found it on Freshly Pressed) and just kept staring at the picture trying to figure out what’s happening there and why it looks so cool.

So, one more time – I’m very pleased to have seen this post and thank you!

  31. Very well done! Encounters with these wild animals were a truly dramatic experience in my life as it appears it was yours. The elephant shot reminds me of the closeness of so many elephants in Lake Manyara National Park. I was also able to get some sequence shots of a giraffe getting up and down on the plain next to the lake. I’ll look forward to seeing the 2nd part of your photos.

My photos are more about the humans living in and around Arusha.
