DUSK to NIGHT

I love sunsets and the moments after a sunset. There is something about that limited time in the day when the blue sky turns orange and occasional hues of purple and scarlet emerge into some cocktail of color that only be described as awesome. These are a few of my attempts to capture the awesomeness of that golden hour. I keep updating these every time I do a new one. Kindly enjoy these and look at your world differently. We live in a beautiful country people. Appreciate that.

  1. I’m struck speechless by your photos. They are simply amazing.

    2 Questions

1: Are you using HDR processing?
2: Where were you when you took some of the panoramic photos(your vantage point?). Were you in a small plane/helicopter, and if so, how did you stabilize the camera?

    • Thanks everyone for the beautiful comments.
@Baisikeli, yes I do most landscape and cityscape shoots in HDR, why? I love HDR, it works for me.
I shot the aerial shots from the KICC helipad not an aircraft

  2. this is simply stunning. Edited or not (I’m sure it isn’t!) But, never imagined people doing this is in Nai or Kenya for that matter! Kudos!

  15. thank you for for the cityscape your photography is very needed… a great advocate for our beautiful country….

  16. i’ve always loved watching for that moment when the sun has just gone over the horizon and the sky is a unique shade of blue, unique to the sunset…and now you’ve managed to capture it on film! Amazing!

  17. I found you through Skyscrapercity. I saw one of your photos of Nairobi at night and to tell the truth, yes, you are talented.

  18. i don’t know how to express how these pictures make me feel. they move things around in my chest, they make my skin prickle, they slow-cook my bones— words are inadequate. thank you for posting!

  19. Fantastic Work! The night scenes are amazing. When I was majoring in photography in College, my goal was Architectural photography, I wish I would have stayed with it. I defiantly will be following you.

  20. Mutua, I hope you realise that, like Mo Amin before you, you stand on the threshold of being one of the most important artist/photographers of our times. Your work documents Kenya in a very unique way, and who knows – 30 odd years from now, when we are referencing ‘old Nairobi’, these will be pivotal pix. Keep it up, and keep sharing!

  21. Wow i have never stopped ‘ogling’ at your photos!!….Any new posting?. I hope you dont mind me using them to market Nairobi in Bristol soon. Great work. Keep it up.

  22. your camera is amazing!!! especially loving the johnnie walker one with the cars in the street… don’t mind my asking, but which camera are you using?

  23. Is there any way you could possibly use the second photo in this post as a free wallpaper monday post? I absolutely love it and would love to use a hi-res version as my desktop background. I also am in love with all of your photos…I have been to Kenya 5 times and can’t get enough of it. I’ll be visiting again in a few months! Thanks for capturing the beauty of your country and sharing it with us…it is much appreciated :)

  24. Wow!!! I’m inspired to take my camera out for a spin! …hope my pics will one day be half as good as yours :) Amazing work… keep it up!

  25. Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is important and everything.
But think of if you added some great pictures or videos to
give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and
video clips, this site could certainly be one of the greatest in its field.
    Wonderful blog!

  26. Beautiful photos. They show the world how Africa is today. I am from Romania (Europe) and most people here think Africa is full of naked people chasing animals with spears (Hollywood is to blame, i think). I see that Kenya has beautiful cities. Is this Nairobi or other city?
Oh, by the way, i think the second photo is the best – that golden-orange haze and the traffic bellow… Wow!
